Big Finish Cover- The Counter-Clockwork Tangerine

Description

There's an interesting story behind this cover of mine.

A while back I listened to Dark Eyes 1 and part of Dark Eyes 2. Loved em. I wanted to make a sort of side-story series to tie in with it- even if it gets a bit silly- like my idea for Doctor Who: The Second Coming. In the Dark Eyes Anthology the Doctor gets a badass new outfit different from NOTD, and a new Sonic, which he apparently didn't use at the end of this life. The Time War is approaching fast.

I recently got a new Sonic Screwdriver I'd been wanting- the toyline exclusive "Transtemporal" model- which is compatible with the Build-A-Sonic-Screwdriver kit. Character options gave this model its own backstory. The Doctor is transported to a dimension where 4 eras of Earth are all converging in on each other- Elizabethan, Victorian, Present Day and the Future. And with this transtemporal imbalance comes a new Sonic from the TARDIS, combining stylizations of all 4 eras- giving it a Steampunk look similar to the Dark Eyes Sonic Screwdriver. This Sonic is different from all the others and contains a feature not carried over to future models.

IT. DOES. WOOD.

I thought "Hey, that's a good story! Someone should adapt that." Of course you know me, always coming up with story ideas and barely putting them into action. So I thought I'd attempt to come up with a 4-part story based on the one on the box- while of course, making up the events that happen.

And with at least 2 other Sonics in his posession, I thought it was time old 8 got another chance to shine. For this story, 8's outfit will differ from era to era, save for future as that and Present will be in Dark Eyes uniform. I figured his disheveled look from NOTD would fit into the rag-tag era of Victorian London. His movie/pre-Dark Eyes outfit will be used in the Edwardian era story, albeit with his hair darkened. Seriously, that was one cheesy wig and didn't match his actual hair at all.

I wanted to do a story about the Clockwork Droids ever since Deep Breath- and of course keeping it within the Victorian period to boot. One accquaintance of mine, a popular, dry-humored, sarcastic oddball girl on Tumblr by the username of conkersradfurday, has a thing for masks, and at least two of them were white with black facepaint or eyeliner, and though not quite evil looking reminded me so much of the Clockwork Droids. So, I asked her if I could use one of the mask selfies for a photoshop project. She's pretty chill in spite of her dry humor, so she gave me the green light, and thus the Counter-Clockwork Droid was born.

I wanted a really clever title involving the word Clockwork, but all I could think of was an obvious reference to the really strange and twisted Stalney Kubric film A Clockwork Orange, which I hate and don't recommend watching. Obviously A became The, Counter was added to Clockwork, and Orange replaced with...Tangerine. And this also tells you that the droid in question is defective/questioning its programming- a thing both Daleks and Cybermen who have teamed up with the Doctor have done- and that it's name is Tangerine. So there- a brand new original character/companion loosely based on Conkersradfurday. I didn't even know she loves A Clockwork Orange, so she was thrilled by the reference in the title and character. I think she'll be a kinda cold, sarcastic character. Kinda like the real person I based it on.

And one last tidbit of info- the actors. With it being her mask on the body, I slipped in her name into the actors list on the right- and she thought that was rad. I also included the Paternoster Road Gang. Why? Well, Starkey has already done generic Sontarans for Big Finish, and I thought- what if the gang met with a past Doctor after the events of Deep Breath?

So there you have it. Probably the lengthiest, non-Sodor-map-changelog-description I've ever written just to describe how this piece came into being.

The next part is being worked on. It will be another iTV crossover, kinda like how I adapted The Second Coming to be a Doctor Who story. Except this will be an actual crossover. It's part of my own little "Unbound Series" only with canon Doctors crossing into other dimensions. This crossover is sort of an extra as it's going to be in the Edwardian period.

Big Finish template by :iconlupinetimelord: and edited by me.

Victorian London backdrop came from Primeval. I flipped it, angled it and gave it a colour overlay.

Edit: Changed their positions. Made Sara a little shorter. Need to fix the bottom of the screwdriver. Maybe make her taller again, idk.

The 8th Doctor and the Paternoster Gang? That'd be fun. Nice idea.
